On May 16th, Startup Madeira will welcome Prithwiraj (Raj) Choudhury, faculty member at Wharton and Harvard Business School and for over a decade studies the changing geography of work. He's a globally recognized expert onthe Future of Work.).

In 2023, Forbes included Raj in their list - Future of Work 50 - and, in 2024 was included in the TIME-Charter list of thought leaders shaping the future of work, Thinkers and Innovators,. Raj reviously worked at McKinsey & Company and Microsoft and obtained his doctorate from Harvard. His research has been cited by the BBC, CNBC, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Forbes, Fortune, Freakonomics, Al Jazeera, El País, and Times of India, among other outlets. He has delivered keynotes and provided advice on the future of work to organizations as diverse as Atlassian, Google, ITC, Deel, Young Presidents’ Organization, the Council on Foreign Relations, the British Parliament, and the United Nations.

Thematic Session: The World Is Your Office

For the first time in Madeira Island, Raj will partake in this thematic session, and share his studies and research on management practices that support hybrid work, remote work, and work from anywhere (WFA); how companies, communities, and countries are competing for remote workers; and how AI and automation can help both desk workers and deskless workers work from anywhere (WFA).His latest book, “The World is Your Office”, published by Harvard Business Press in April 2025, will be one of the main themes of this session and some copies will be available on the day to be autographed by the author.
