Startup Madeira is pleased to announce the seventh edition of the Madeira Dev Community, featuring guest speaker Ola Lato, for an online talk in English, which will take place on June 26, from 17:00 to 17:40, at Startup Madeira (Campus da Penteada, Floor -1).

Ola Lato, is a Gameplay Programmer at 11 bit studios, an internationally recognised Polish studio. Specialising in the development of technical systems and innovative tools, she is part of the core team responsible for designing the complex architecture and narrative systems of "The Alters".

"Building Narration Systems"

Discover the innovative tools and systems developed to guide the narrative in The Alters. In this session, we will explore the technical challenges faced by the team and the solutions implemented to overcome them. Ola Lato will cover the use of state machines, the layering of narrative structures, the development of dialogue selectors, and the complexities associated with saving e patching processes. Drawing on practical examples from the game itself, she will share key mistakes and lessons learned, highlighting where there is still room for improvement in the development workflow.

Madeira Dev Community

The Madeira Dev Community is an initiative of Startup Madeira, within the PRR eGames Lab, bringing together game developers, digital creatives, and interactive media enthusiasts in Madeira. Through regular lectures, workshops, mentoring sessions, and networking opportunities, the community promotes knowledge sharing, supports new talent, and encourages collaboration.

Its mission is to strengthen and professionalize the local gaming ecosystem by encouraging innovation, digital skills development and new opportunities across gaming, interactive media and digital entertainment.
